I am predominantly a functional potter whose work is influenced by both the beautiful Rame Peninsula and also as a celebration of food.

My studio is based at the top of my garden in the village of Millbrook on the beautiful Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall.

My work is mainly small batch production in stoneware and porcelain which celebrates both the beauty of the local area and how also a celebration of food and how to make a simple meal very special with refined shapes and unusual but fully functional glazes.

I trained many years ago as a repetition thrower with the aim of going into industry and then was totally sidetracked by the drive to learn all about the process from the clay itself, the design then production and the development of glazes so a few years at college followed including a HND at Falmouth in Ceramics in the 1990’s where I was mainly working around integrating ‘happy accidents’ and some selected raw materials collected from around the local area, a habit which still continues today.

I then worked in a series of jobs including a spell at the Pangolin Foundry in Chalford near Stroud where I worked on pieces by Lyn Chadwick, Giacometti, Anthony Backhouse and many others which further developed my appreciation of refined form.

Now many years later I’m back in Cornwall again, wandering the beaches, woods and cliffs with a trowel and bucket in hand seeking both raw materials for my work and finding inspiration in wandering, collaboration and communication with the other artists and makers in the area. Food and the sea are a massive part of my life.

I’d love to welcome you to my studio.
