Gail Cooper is a ceramist working from her garden studio in Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, Cornwall. Gail throws her pieces by hand on the potter’s wheel with only St Agnes Clay, produced less than a mile away from her home.
‘I create both functional and display pieces, minimal in design using my surroundings around the Cove as inspiration, the Engine Houses and chimneys, with their straight lines tapering up, a reminder of Cornwall’s mining heritage, along with the anemones exposed on the rocks at low tide. My glazes further reflect the natural colours around St Agnes, from the North Cornish Sea, seaweeds and ferns, granite, and slate’.
Gail will be showing both her functional ware and display pieces, over the Saturday and Sunday, discussing the making process, with samples of unfired stoneware from St Agnes clay.
Alongside Gail Cooper Ceramics will be a wonderful selection of talented local artisans including an artist, photographer/ film maker, jeweller, ceramicists and wood carver.
MMI is centrally located in St. Agnes 100 metres from the car park, is accessible and has a café (Nourish) and toilets.
The Open Studios event will be taking place on the ground floor in the front 2 studio rooms.
