My studio is situated in the tranquility of Trewidden Gardens. It one of 10 Artists Studios set in old converted stables next to Trewidden House. My studio is at the end of the upstairs corridor. It is a bright attractive space overlooking the courtyard below.
On show will be a selection of oil paintings, large and small, reflecting time spent in the local landscape and also some work from places I have visited. Most will be available to purchase, in addition to some reproductive prints of a library of my work and some greetings cards.
I paint on paper, canvas and board using good quality oil pigments. My work begins from observations in the landscape taking photographs and making quick sketches. These form compositions for paintings where I play with bright blocks of colour to form a spacial landscape. I continue to work this until it pleases my eye further working line, colour and mark making using various tools. I like the paintings to evoke a sense of drama and movement from their place of origin and to convey a sense of awe and wonder for nature and the environment. I have a positive attitude to painting and hope to give the visitor a happy and uplifting visual experience.
In addition benefitting from visiting the other open Trewidden Studios visitors (where a wide array of artwork is available to view and purchase), visitors can also easily access Trewidden Cafe Tearooms and gardens. The gardens host a range of over 300 Magnolias and Camelias as well as many rare plants not normally cultivated in this country. The very friendly cafe tearooms are set at the end of the carpark and have a good range of cakes, savoury snacks and meals. Dogs are welcome. There is ample parking and the studios are situated on a short walk back from the main carpark which will be well signposted. We look forward to seeing you!
